Hair Jobs and Beauty Salon Survey In August 2020

Hair and Beauty Salon Survey

Our popular hair jobs and beauty salon survey is here and it’s here in perfect time for your feedback.

Time for a haircut! Or even a nail manicure.

We are a couple of months into the reopening of the hair salons and we thought it was a good time to conduct our “Back To Salon” survey to find out what has been going on in hair and beauty salons in London.

The hair and beauty industry has been saying hello to it’s clients again, starting in July for hair salons and then later in August for beauty salons.

Needless to say, for many salons, it’s been wonderful to be able to offer haircuts and hair styling again, albeit with certain measures in place, such gloves, PPE face masks and face shields. However, due to the unique situation that we have all faced, some important questions remain in the in hair and beauty industry and this is what we are exploring in our salon survey.

Are We Ready?

The industry firmly puts out the welcome mat.

Owners and hairdressers, owners and beauty therapists are all back in the salons and have prepared the salons as per the Government guidelines.

Face masks are now a requirement for all staff and clients whilst in a hairdressing salon and barbers.

However, face screens are more convenient for hair and beauty staff. Clear plastic face visors provide a barrier between your face and your client. For this reason, they have been named as an official requirement for hairdressers and barbers who cannot maintain the full 2 metre social distance during any treatment or service.

Are Clients Ready To Get Back Into The Salons?

There have been an explosion of home haircuts and shaved heads and beards over the last few months. Some of that has not been pretty.

With a return to office work increasingly back on the on the horizon, a return to tidier hairstyles and nail and eyebrows could be back in our minds.

Are Clients Following The PPE Guidlines When Entering Your Hair and Beauty Salon?

Our survey covers three areas:

  1. PPE Measures

What PPE measures have you put in place?

2) Salon Footfall

Has salon footfall recovered? If not, what is the % footfall versus last year?

3) Salon Staffing

Are you staff furloughed?

Are your staff self employed?

What % of each has now returned to work?

4) Client Adherence To Risk Reduction

What % of clients wear a face mask?

What % of clients use hand sanitiser?

What % of clients adhere to the no or minimal chatting rule?

We look forward to sharing our survey results with you soon.

FROM BEHIND THE HAIR AND BEAUTY RECRUITMENT DESK

Rubber hits the road!
Whoa, what a difference a week makes!

The hair and beauty industry took a bold step forward. The step was pregnant with confidence and forward thinking. The step announced, ‘we are ready’!

The industry firmly puts out the welcome mat!

Hair and beauty salon owners, hair and beauty talent and the much treasured hair and beauty clientele now know what’s expected of them. And so the love affair resumes!

The week evidenced a huge up turn, and I mean huge, in the demand for hair and beauty staff, both in the permanent and temporary domain. This was slightly unexpected, but received with unquestionable relief and profound enthusiasm. Bookings are flooding in for July 4 and beyond.

From Behind Our Hair and Beauty Jobs Desk In June

Hair and Beauty Jobs Desk Latest

June 1 2020.

The slumbering beast begins to awaken! This is what comes to mind as I consider a snap shot of the recruitment activity of the hair and beauty industry last week.

The industry begins to emerge from its enforced hibernation with a quiet, considered zeal, peppered with trepidation and questioning ‘will it ever be the same again’?

The availability of hair and beauty temps and colour technicians were questions very much on commercial hair and beauty salon owners check lists last week; good news for our existing team of temp talent and for hairdressers and beauty therapists finding themselves in need or considering a summer of flexi shifts. We expect to be in a position to start increasing our temp numbers as the summer progresses.

Many laser technicians were also in touch too wanting to discuss protocols and personal protective recommendations.

A small handful of salons advised they will not be reopening. This is sad news indeed. And there were calls from beauty therapists and hairdressers finding themselves without work when the industry reopens due to the restrictions required for social distancing in the workplace resulting in cut backs.

So a mixed week as we reach day 80.

June promises much. We might even get to reopen earlier than expected. Let’s see.

Be well, stay safe.

From Behind Our Hair and Beauty Recruitment Desk

From Behind The Hair and Beauty Recruitment Desk At Rose Hadley London

 May 18 2020

Hi Hair and Beauty world!

We’ve got maybe 6/7 weeks before the finger is taken off the pause button and I thought I’d share a weekly post leading up to ‘operation restart’.

Three weeks ago, I was super worried about what kind of hair and beauty recruitment business I would be opening back up, but last week saw a shift in energy and the signs from behind the desk are looking increasingly positive on a daily basis and I wanted to share, offer a reality check and reach out with some encouraging news. Don’t get me wrong, there are challenges ahead, but the early signs are looking good.

A recent survey found that a hair salon appointment was among the top three things people are most excited about when the pause button is released.  This is reassuring indeed (did you see the reports evidencing the queues for haircuts in New Zealand?)!

Last week I received many calls from hair salon owners, all asking similar questions –

  1. Will you be there for us when we reopen?

Answer: 100% yes!

2. Will you have enough hair/beauty temps to support us?

Answer: 100% yes!

There were also calls from hair and beauty talent, again, all asking similar questions –

  1. We know the industry is closed right now, but can we register a CV in anticipation of the restart.

Answer: 100% yes you can!

2. How do you think the hair and beauty job market will be? Will there be temp jobs?

Answer:  The permanent job market may take a while to get going but we expect there to be a demand for hair and beauty temps as hair and beauty salons open their doors and the industry steps on the path to recovery.

For sure the hair and beauty salon experience will be different for both clients and staff, but even with a 6/7 week lead time, energy and momentum is beginning to brew.

Next update will be on May 25. Be well, stay safe .
