Beauty Jobs London – Salary Guide 2022

Salary Guide For Beauty Salon Staff in London 2022

For beauty therapists in London, the demand for your beauty therapist services during 2022 has been strong, with both permanent and especially temps, being sought by salons trying to cover this additional work.

So you will be interested in how this is impacting the market for salaries and this is covered by the latest salary guide.

With the absence of permanent staff applicants, salons are increasingly seeking beauty temps to cope with the additional demand they are seeing walk through the door in 2022.

It seems that with such high demand for beauty staff, the current market is favouring staff, rather than the beauty salons in terms of the salaries that can be expected for new beauty job roles.

So, if you are a level 3 qualified beauty therapist, with salon experience, this is a good time to consider a move to a new salon. Salary uplifts are possible.

Why Is Demand For Beauty Temps So High?

Post Brexit and post pandemic, the gaping permanent staff shortage, reveals itself in its entirety. The result – heaps and heaps of permanent hair jobs for the discerning job seeker. That said, the industry is still in recovery from financial pain and this is very much reflected in the salaries offered, at this time in some places.

We do, however, witness beauty salon owners as being favourably poised for the future and fully recognising the need of investment in staffing for the remaining two quarters and beyond.

In the salons, topics of conversation have changed recently. Customers have stopped talking about Covid jabs and now it’s hard to avoid the latest news on the war in Ukraine.

This Ukraine factor is impacting almost everyone, bringing frustration and inner anxiety to the population here and throughout Europe.

This means an increased need for some respite, in the form of relaxation, diversion therapy, and healing.

What better way, than the familiar, trusted beauty services to provide that feel good factor, even if it is for a day or two, but usually the impact of the new beauty treatment lasts much longer!

We cannot underestimate the powerful service beauty therapists provide to their clients.

As well as the beauty service itself, the upliftment of someone to chat to, can be invaluable to some people who may have not spoken to anyone recently and be cautiously returning to going out or back to work again at the office.

The mood in salons is one of confidence, enthusiasm and reflection. With enormous positivity, beauty salon owners and beauty staff have reached out to Rose Hadley with their recruitment needs for the remainder of 2022 and beyond.

The question of salary has come up, pretty much in every conversation. It’s clear, that beauty therapists are highly prized and in high demand. This, combined with reduced supply are pushing up salaries for salons to attract and retain hair workers.

Below, is a salary guide for London for June 2022, i.e. gross basic. Commission on services and retail vary, with an average of 10% on services and 5% on retail.

Hair and Beauty Salons in London Move To Tier Four

Hair and Beauty Salons In London Tier Four Time

Hair and Beauty Salons In London move To Tier Four, which tightens the current rules more.

Tougher rules for London mean hair and beauty salons will be closed for now.

On Saturday 19th December 2020, as a big and sudden change for Christmas, Prime Minister, Boris Johnson announced that London and other areas in southern England which were currently under the Tier 3 level of coronavirus restrictions, will move to an even stricter new Tier 4.

Mr Johnson also said that a planned five-day easing of socialising rules that would allow up to three households to meet in “Christmas bubbles” will be cancelled for Tier 4 areas.

We know this means Hairdressers and barbers, beauty salons, tattoo parlours, nail salons, spas and beauty services, massage parlours and tanning salons all need to close for the time being until there is a change from Tier 4 back to Tier 3 or lower.

This is a big disappointment for hair salons and beauty salons in London and in all the affected Tier 4 restricted areas and we empathise with all our clients that will be affected by this.

Hopefully this will be just a temporary situation until the picture improves.

Here at Rose Hadley London, we are still open and working, currently from home while Tier 4 restrictions remain, so you can contact us on the following number after the Christmas and New Year holiday.

Rose Hadley Contact Number for November: 07790 488425

We can still receive CVs and set up online interviews via Zoom with candidates and employers, so that you are ready when the Christmas and New Year holiday ends and Tier 4 is lifted.

Hair Jobs and Beauty Salons – Tier Three Update

Hair and Beauty Salons In London Move To Tier Three

London hair and beauty salons move to Tier 3.

Tougher rules for London, but hair and beauty salons will remain open.

The Health Secretary has announced that London will enter the strictest category for Covid 19 restrictions, Tier 3 from 16th December 2020.

Why Can Hair Salons and Beauty Salons Remain Open?

Hair and beauty salons can stay open because they come under the ‘personal care’ sector in the Government’s Covid Winter Plan, so are allowed to operate in Tier 3.

As we know the hair and beauty industry is popular with users and essential for the physical and mental wellbeing of everyone in London and the UK.

Here’s a full list of close contact personal care services that will remain open, even while London is in Tier 3 category for Covid 19 restrictions:-

  • Hairdressers and barbers
  • Beauty salons
  • Tattoo parlours
  • Nail salons
  • Spas and beauty services
  • Massage parlours
  • Tanning salons

Salon workers and clientele should continue to take all necessary precautions when visiting hair and beauty salons, including wearing a face covering, washing hands regularly, and social distancing where possible.

Time in a salon is an important treat in terms of looking good, but also in terms of relaxation and “me time”.

So after the return to opening of salons in July, initially for hairdressers, then later in the month for beauty salons, we hoped it would be plain sailing back to more like normality, albeit with PPE and hand sanitisers in place.

In November, we had a second lockdown, but we had measures we can take and procedures we can follow to minimise risks, which has helped our industry demonstrate why salons should remain open.

We are delighted for the hair and beauty industry that this new Tier three category for London, means that salons can remain open, keeping their valuable services available to clients.

Here at Rose Hadley London, we are still open and working, currently from home while Tier 3 restrictions remain, so you can contact us on the following number after the Christmas and New Year holiday.

Rose Hadley Contact Number for November: 07790 488425

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2021.

Hair Jobs and Beauty Salon Survey In August 2020

Hair and Beauty Salon Survey

Our popular hair jobs and beauty salon survey is here and it’s here in perfect time for your feedback.

Time for a haircut! Or even a nail manicure.

We are a couple of months into the reopening of the hair salons and we thought it was a good time to conduct our “Back To Salon” survey to find out what has been going on in hair and beauty salons in London.

The hair and beauty industry has been saying hello to it’s clients again, starting in July for hair salons and then later in August for beauty salons.

Needless to say, for many salons, it’s been wonderful to be able to offer haircuts and hair styling again, albeit with certain measures in place, such gloves, PPE face masks and face shields. However, due to the unique situation that we have all faced, some important questions remain in the in hair and beauty industry and this is what we are exploring in our salon survey.

Are We Ready?

The industry firmly puts out the welcome mat.

Owners and hairdressers, owners and beauty therapists are all back in the salons and have prepared the salons as per the Government guidelines.

Face masks are now a requirement for all staff and clients whilst in a hairdressing salon and barbers.

However, face screens are more convenient for hair and beauty staff. Clear plastic face visors provide a barrier between your face and your client. For this reason, they have been named as an official requirement for hairdressers and barbers who cannot maintain the full 2 metre social distance during any treatment or service.

Are Clients Ready To Get Back Into The Salons?

There have been an explosion of home haircuts and shaved heads and beards over the last few months. Some of that has not been pretty.

With a return to office work increasingly back on the on the horizon, a return to tidier hairstyles and nail and eyebrows could be back in our minds.

Are Clients Following The PPE Guidlines When Entering Your Hair and Beauty Salon?

Our survey covers three areas:

  1. PPE Measures

What PPE measures have you put in place?

2) Salon Footfall

Has salon footfall recovered? If not, what is the % footfall versus last year?

3) Salon Staffing

Are you staff furloughed?

Are your staff self employed?

What % of each has now returned to work?

4) Client Adherence To Risk Reduction

What % of clients wear a face mask?

What % of clients use hand sanitiser?

What % of clients adhere to the no or minimal chatting rule?

We look forward to sharing our survey results with you soon.

From Behind Our Hair and Beauty Jobs Desk In June

Hair and Beauty Jobs Desk Latest

June 1 2020.

The slumbering beast begins to awaken! This is what comes to mind as I consider a snap shot of the recruitment activity of the hair and beauty industry last week.

The industry begins to emerge from its enforced hibernation with a quiet, considered zeal, peppered with trepidation and questioning ‘will it ever be the same again’?

The availability of hair and beauty temps and colour technicians were questions very much on commercial hair and beauty salon owners check lists last week; good news for our existing team of temp talent and for hairdressers and beauty therapists finding themselves in need or considering a summer of flexi shifts. We expect to be in a position to start increasing our temp numbers as the summer progresses.

Many laser technicians were also in touch too wanting to discuss protocols and personal protective recommendations.

A small handful of salons advised they will not be reopening. This is sad news indeed. And there were calls from beauty therapists and hairdressers finding themselves without work when the industry reopens due to the restrictions required for social distancing in the workplace resulting in cut backs.

So a mixed week as we reach day 80.

June promises much. We might even get to reopen earlier than expected. Let’s see.

Be well, stay safe.
