Hair Jobs and Beauty Salons – Second Lockdown Update

Hair and Beauty Salon Second Lockdown Latest

Hair jobs and beauty salons second lockdown update

As we know the hair and beauty industry is popular with users and essential for the physical and mental wellbeing of everyone in London and the UK.

There is more to a haircut or a nail manicure than meets the eye for sure.

Time in a salon is an important treat in terms of looking good, but also in terms of relaxation and “me time”.

So after the return to opening of salons in July, initially for hairdressers, then later in the month for beauty salons, we hoped it would be plain sailing back to more like normality, albeit with PPE and hand sanitisers in place.

In November, we have second lockdown, with this time more hope that it will be a shorter one, with more confidence that we know what we are dealing with in terms of measures we can take and procedures we can follow to minimise risks.

Here at Rose Hadley London, we are still open and working, currently from home, so you can contact us during this second hair and beauty lockdown on the following number:

Rose Hadley Contact Number for November: 07790 488425

We can still receive CVs and set up online interviews via Zoom with candidates and employers, so that you are ready when the second hair and beauty salon lockdown ends at the end of November 2020.

The run up to Christmas and New Year, as we know, is normally a very busy period for the hair and beauty industry, so the end of the second lockdown in November will be welcomed.

Here at Rose Hadley London, we can still be contacted and are available to help you with your Christmas hair and beauty recruitment needs and hair and beauty job opportunities, especially during this time.

We wish you all well and look forward to speaking to you.

Hair Jobs and Beauty Salon Survey In August 2020

Hair and Beauty Salon Survey

Our popular hair jobs and beauty salon survey is here and it’s here in perfect time for your feedback.

Time for a haircut! Or even a nail manicure.

We are a couple of months into the reopening of the hair salons and we thought it was a good time to conduct our “Back To Salon” survey to find out what has been going on in hair and beauty salons in London.

The hair and beauty industry has been saying hello to it’s clients again, starting in July for hair salons and then later in August for beauty salons.

Needless to say, for many salons, it’s been wonderful to be able to offer haircuts and hair styling again, albeit with certain measures in place, such gloves, PPE face masks and face shields. However, due to the unique situation that we have all faced, some important questions remain in the in hair and beauty industry and this is what we are exploring in our salon survey.

Are We Ready?

The industry firmly puts out the welcome mat.

Owners and hairdressers, owners and beauty therapists are all back in the salons and have prepared the salons as per the Government guidelines.

Face masks are now a requirement for all staff and clients whilst in a hairdressing salon and barbers.

However, face screens are more convenient for hair and beauty staff. Clear plastic face visors provide a barrier between your face and your client. For this reason, they have been named as an official requirement for hairdressers and barbers who cannot maintain the full 2 metre social distance during any treatment or service.

Are Clients Ready To Get Back Into The Salons?

There have been an explosion of home haircuts and shaved heads and beards over the last few months. Some of that has not been pretty.

With a return to office work increasingly back on the on the horizon, a return to tidier hairstyles and nail and eyebrows could be back in our minds.

Are Clients Following The PPE Guidlines When Entering Your Hair and Beauty Salon?

Our survey covers three areas:

  1. PPE Measures

What PPE measures have you put in place?

2) Salon Footfall

Has salon footfall recovered? If not, what is the % footfall versus last year?

3) Salon Staffing

Are you staff furloughed?

Are your staff self employed?

What % of each has now returned to work?

4) Client Adherence To Risk Reduction

What % of clients wear a face mask?

What % of clients use hand sanitiser?

What % of clients adhere to the no or minimal chatting rule?

We look forward to sharing our survey results with you soon.

From Behind Our Hair and Beauty Jobs Desk In June

Hair and Beauty Jobs Desk Latest

June 1 2020.

The slumbering beast begins to awaken! This is what comes to mind as I consider a snap shot of the recruitment activity of the hair and beauty industry last week.

The industry begins to emerge from its enforced hibernation with a quiet, considered zeal, peppered with trepidation and questioning ‘will it ever be the same again’?

The availability of hair and beauty temps and colour technicians were questions very much on commercial hair and beauty salon owners check lists last week; good news for our existing team of temp talent and for hairdressers and beauty therapists finding themselves in need or considering a summer of flexi shifts. We expect to be in a position to start increasing our temp numbers as the summer progresses.

Many laser technicians were also in touch too wanting to discuss protocols and personal protective recommendations.

A small handful of salons advised they will not be reopening. This is sad news indeed. And there were calls from beauty therapists and hairdressers finding themselves without work when the industry reopens due to the restrictions required for social distancing in the workplace resulting in cut backs.

So a mixed week as we reach day 80.

June promises much. We might even get to reopen earlier than expected. Let’s see.

Be well, stay safe.

From Behind Our Hair and Beauty Recruitment Desk In May

FROM BEHIND THE HAIR AND BEAUTY DESK
MAY 25TH 2020.

Hi Hair and Beauty world!

This week has offered less activity in the domain of hair and beauty recruitment but there have been some strong, positive interactions with hair and beauty salon owners. The general overview from these conversations –

  • Salon owners feel confident the footfall will return and customer retention will be high.
  • The salon owners are taking practical, pragmatic measures within the work space to ensure the safety of their staff and their clients.
  • They are in regular contact with their hair and beauty clients and their hair and beauty staff.
  • They are constantly monitoring government and industry guidelines.
  • Longer hours, split shifts, opening 7 days per week are options being considered.
  • They are taking active measures to prepare their hair and beauty team for reopening.
  • Most plan to open hair and beauty columns around mid June for a July 4 start.
The overwhelming sense I am left with after each and every conversation with a hair and beauty salon owner, barbershop owner or medi clinic owner is one of responsible action and staff/ client safety being of absolute paramount importance, despite the financial pressure this crisis has imposed on them.
Hair styling, hair cutting, hair colouring services and every beauty service will be as good as pre lockdown for sure and the feel of the experience may be dramatically different but I can say with confidence, this industry is stepping up!

Be well, stay safe.

From Behind Our Hair and Beauty Recruitment Desk

From Behind The Hair and Beauty Recruitment Desk At Rose Hadley London

 May 18 2020

Hi Hair and Beauty world!

We’ve got maybe 6/7 weeks before the finger is taken off the pause button and I thought I’d share a weekly post leading up to ‘operation restart’.

Three weeks ago, I was super worried about what kind of hair and beauty recruitment business I would be opening back up, but last week saw a shift in energy and the signs from behind the desk are looking increasingly positive on a daily basis and I wanted to share, offer a reality check and reach out with some encouraging news. Don’t get me wrong, there are challenges ahead, but the early signs are looking good.

A recent survey found that a hair salon appointment was among the top three things people are most excited about when the pause button is released.  This is reassuring indeed (did you see the reports evidencing the queues for haircuts in New Zealand?)!

Last week I received many calls from hair salon owners, all asking similar questions –

  1. Will you be there for us when we reopen?

Answer: 100% yes!

2. Will you have enough hair/beauty temps to support us?

Answer: 100% yes!

There were also calls from hair and beauty talent, again, all asking similar questions –

  1. We know the industry is closed right now, but can we register a CV in anticipation of the restart.

Answer: 100% yes you can!

2. How do you think the hair and beauty job market will be? Will there be temp jobs?

Answer:  The permanent job market may take a while to get going but we expect there to be a demand for hair and beauty temps as hair and beauty salons open their doors and the industry steps on the path to recovery.

For sure the hair and beauty salon experience will be different for both clients and staff, but even with a 6/7 week lead time, energy and momentum is beginning to brew.

Next update will be on May 25. Be well, stay safe .

From Temp To Permanent Hairdresser Jobs

If you are currently a temp hairdresser, looking to go Permanent, this is for you.

There are top Hair salons out there seeking permanent staff. Why not start a new season in your life with a career change in the shape of a permanent hair job?

Why Change From Temp To Permanent Job Status?

In every career there is a time where your life stage and circumstances mean that temporary work, better known as temping to hair temps, suits your lifestyle requirements and time you have available.

This may be because you are a student, studying for a qualification, or because you have children or elderly relatives that you need to look after.

You may also have another passion, such as sports, shopping, therapy or travel that you want to indulge in. Or need some time for yourself.

Then, at other times, the exact opposite occurs, you get more free time as the kids go to school, leave the home to go to College or University and you want to return to a full time Permanent role.

Advantages of Switching From Temp To Permanent Job

You know you are ready for the change to Permanent, but do you know the full set of advantages that you gain from the switch? As human beings it is motivational to understand these to help drive forward into a new permanent job role in hairdressing.

  • Job security
  • Career advancement
  • Company investment in you
  • Personal development
  • Further education sponsored by your company
  • Training courses

More Benefits of Temp To Permanent Jobs

This has the potential to be a phenomenal year for you with opportunities in all sectors of the hair industry, according to recruitment experts Rose Hadley London. Are you ready to strive and thrive as a permanent hairdresser?

Here’s some more advantages for deciding to go Permanent as a Hairdresser :-

  • Paid holidays
  • Sick pay
  • Maternity leave
  • Guaranteed income (although it’s not all about the money for hairdressers and beauty therapists, career development and good working environment are also very important).

Building A Long Term Relationship With Clients

Hairdressers just love their clients.

Permanent work allows you as a hairdresser to build a long term relationship with your clients. What better way than seeing the clients transformed and so appreciative. This is very rewarding.

Being Part of The Team

Hardressers are crucial parts of the salon team. This salon team is more like a “salon family”, with opportunities to make friends.

The salon workplace is your “stage” where you perform your skills and like any good performer, you like a happy and appreciative audience (the clients), as well as being a valued member of the talented salon team.

It is uplifting and rewarding to be part of a professional salon team and a permanent job placement can add to that sense of feeling more part of the salon team.

Another advantage of being permanent is that you will be invited the all the social events if you like to have fun, when work is over for the day.

Getting Company Investment In You

Job satisfaction is high if you are working in the right place and feeling supported by your company through extra learning opportunities and development courses.

Before you rule yourself out, due to lack of experience

Minimum Beauty or Hair Level 3 qualified and 1+ years experience is what many salons expect from their candidates. So getting qualified is the important first step to launch your career. Then gain salon experience from there.
